The BHKi/AT hybrid meetup; Bioinformatics meets Tech, is the first of a series of meetups to bring together bioinformatics and software engineering communities. We believe that these two communities can benefit from each other given that they are both guided by the goal of creating practical solutions. This first meeting will be a back-to-basics approach introducing both audiences to BHKi Africa’s talking, and the vision of this merger, which includes making biologists confident programmers and introducing research software engineering to developers to develop more biological research-based tools.
One vision of BHKi is to create a platform for early career researchers to network and present their work, as well as listen to experts in the field. We have achieved this in the past year through monthly virtual meetups dubbed “Science cafes” where we invited guests to speak on different-omics topics, mental health in research, and presentations of projects by our members.

Elarian is a customer engagement framework (Customer Data Platform) that helps you build robust applications with the customer as the unit of abstraction. Elarian features robust capability in handling end to end of customer data.
Africa's Talking powers communications solutions across Africa with simplified access to telco infrastructure, developers use our powerful SMS, USSD, Voice, Airtime, and Payments APIs to bring their ideas to life, as they build and sustain scalable businesses.
Africa's Talking community allows developers to learn skills for the modern-day African Developer. We are language and framework agnostic. All developers are welcome. This is where Africa's Talking developers community meets to build, learn and exchange knowledge.
We are helping software developers and businesses to bring their ideas to life through easy-to-use APIs quickly.

I use data to try to understand and solve real world problems.
I love to read, study history, go on adventures and discover new music. I am a science enthusiast, especially in the fields of bioinformatics, computer-aided drug design, and medical biochemistry. I have experience working with omics data and molecular docking, and I am keen on spearheading and contributing to projects that deal with finding cures for diseases through the application of bioinformatics techniques.
Currently, I am furthering my education and expertise in Bioinformatics via MSc Bioinformatics. I am also actively working on bridging the gap between experienced and novice bioinformaticians in Kenya through the Bioinformatics Hub of Kenya Initiative (BHKi), the HP&A mentorship program, and my new upcoming project The Science in real life podcast. During my free time, I volunteer in passion projects such as TEDxParklands.
My passion for drug discovery stems from wanting to see a disease-free world and this has led me to try and craft solutions wherever the opportunity arises such as through the JKUAT hatch-hack competition (where my team emerged third) the Nairobi Perl hackathon (where my team emerged victorious). Personally, quality education and scientific discovery are things I am committed to and I would like to be at the forefront of this.
